Guided by years of experience, the bamboo artisan listens to the voice of the material, knowing that the slightest movement of the blade can transform its expression.

At times, an unexpected form appears—born not of calculation, but of serendipity.This form is then entrusted to the washi artisan, who considers every detail—the flow of shadow and light.

The thickness of the paper, the direction of its fibers, the way each layer overlaps—everything is measured with the eye, the hand, and the heart, and refined through delicate movements as if twisting with the fingertips, until the shape finds its quiet perfection.When bamboo and washi meet, their voices harmonize to create a single work.

Within it lies a story of Tsumugi—weaving together past and future.

In traditional washi lanterns, bamboo or wire ribs are typically used.
In this piece, however, thin washi paper is wrapped around PET resin ribs, creating a soft texture while minimizing the shadows cast by the ribs themselves.
In addition, the spacing between the ribs is intentionally made narrower to achieve a more delicate and refined expression.

Each washi lantern uses approximately 75 meters of ribs in total.

一本の竹から生まれる形には、職人の技と、自然の気まぐれが宿ります。竹の職人は、長年の経験で素材の声を聞き、刃の入れ方ひとつで表情を変えていきます。

紙の厚み、繊維の方向、重なり方──すべては手と目と心で測られ、指で撚るような繊細な動きで、静かに形を整えていく。竹と和紙、二つの素材が響き合い、ひとつの作品となるとき、そこには過去と未来をつなぐ「紡ぎ」の物語が宿ります。

私たちは、この手仕事の積み重ねが、百年先までも日本の美を照らすと信じています。
「紡ぎ」──竹のしなやかさと和紙の優しさを結ぶ。
通常の和紙提灯では、竹や針金のヒゴが用いられますが、本作では PET樹脂製のヒゴに薄い和紙を巻き付けることで、やわらかな質感を生み出しつつ、ひご自体が落とす影を抑えています。

また、ヒゴとヒゴの間隔をあえて狭くすることで、より繊細な表情を表現しています。

ひとつの和紙提灯には、およそ75mもの長さのヒゴが使用されています。

竹ヒゴ（丸ヒゴ）は、熱で形を矯正することはしていません。
竹が本来持っている“しなり”だけに委ね、ゆっくりと曲げています。そのため、曲線は決して均一ではなく、場所によってわずかな揺らぎや個体差が生まれます。けれどそれは、自然が描いた線そのものです。

人の手で整えすぎないこと。
素材の呼吸を残すこと。

均整ではなく、自然のリズムがつくる曲線を、どうぞお楽しみください。

One of Japan's three major lantern-making regions Mito's craftsmanship meets Suguga's insect cage and bamboo basketry craftsmanship

Mito is said to be one of Japan's three major lantern-making regions.
This lantern has water- and dirt-proof surface, and uses eco-friendly materials of PET resin and starch paste for the frame. Bamboo or metal wires are usually used as frame materials, but in this product, layers of thin Japanese paper wrapped around the PET resin frame create great texture, and the translucency of the material softens its shadow. The fine frame structure brings a sense of delicacy to the appearance.

Suguga's insect cage and bamboo basketry craftsmanship
This region is known for a special technique of bamboo basketry, where thin and round strips of bamboo are bent in a flexible manner and installed into a bamboo outer frame. This bending process is one of the charms of this craft, but in designing this product, we challenged ourselves to express softness with only straight lines and their combination. In addition to the warm appearance of round strips, it gradually assumes a color with a sense of wabi-sabi unique to aged bamboo.

The lantern part made of Japanese paper can also be used upside-down.

提灯の日本三大産地といわれる水戸の職人技×虫篭などを作る駿河竹千筋細工の職人技

提灯の日本三大産地といわれる水戸
表面には水、汚れを防ぐ加工を施し、ひごにはPET樹脂、でんぷん糊と環境にも良い素材を使用しています。通常ひごには竹や針金を使用しますが、PET樹脂製のひごに薄い和紙を巻き付け質感を出し、ひご自体の影を抑えました。ひごとひごとの間隔を狭くする事で繊細さを表現しています。

虫篭などを作る駿河竹千筋細工
細く丸く削られた竹ひごをしなやかに曲げ、竹の輪に組み込んでゆく技法。その“曲げる”醍醐味を省き“直線”の組み方のみで柔らかさを表現しています。丸ひごの持つ温かさに加え、使用する事で竹特有のわびさびの風格ある色合いになります。

和紙部分の提灯を上下反対にして使用する事も可能です。

“SEN　Hokore”との大きな違いは、竹ひごの本数はもちろんの事、竹ひごを差す穴の角度は32種類。駿河竹千筋細工は、天保11年（1840）に始まり、現在Hokore 06により優雅で繊細な華を咲かせます。
完成までに約3ヶ月を要する作品です。
海外のホテルにも使用され、日本国内では天井の高い吹き抜けの部屋などにお勧め致します。

The annual Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, 14 - 19 of April, 2004 has just closed and marks another highlight in another year (ho hum)of design. Pretty decent weather (for once) tempered the somewhat lackluster performance of the biggest design show on earth.

The Sen lamp is created using thin bamboo strips (Sensuji-zaiku).

Hundreds of flexible bamboo strips are shaped and fashioned into a loop surrounding the light in the center. The indirect light cast by the Sen lamp will provide an ambiance similar to the ambiance created by the traditional Japanese light (Andon). When used in a well-ventilated, dry room, it will rotate creating a unique aura (Wabi-Sabi) with the colors of bamboo.

As same as Sen, Hokore is created using thin bamboo strips (Sensuji-zaiku). The concepts of Hokore have been completed since the first series, Sen was presented. As in my others works, It is about the powers of followers, and about the pride toward the energy at the moment of blooming. It is also about the traditional craft works that would be created only with sophisticated techniques and with long time period of production, which would be proud of toward all other the world. With all of my thoughts and hopes, this is the work that I can be proud of with all of my challenges that I have had.

The Mocoro lamp is created using a wood-turning technique (Mocoro-rokuro). This kind of technique is similar to using a lathe and is often used to make bowls (Wan) and plates (Bon). With nine softly curved plates of Hemlock fir (Tsuga), a pinaceous tree, coated with amino based paints (more resilient than conventional urethan coatings), the light that filters through the gaps between the strips casts a series of soft, soothing lines of light on the walls of the room.

The indirect light will create an ambiance similar to the ambiance created by the traditional Japanese light (Andon).
